Groundworks’ new Drop-In Center opened for 24-Hour Shelter on August 16, 2021

In an effort to provide overnight shelter for a number of individuals currently living outdoors in the Brattleboro area, we plan to open the new Drop-In Center for 24-hour shelter, seven days a week, starting Monday, August 16th.

The new South Main Street Drop-In Center can provide shelter for up to 34 people per night.  The program (formerly known as the Seasonal Overflow Shelter or “SOS”) will launch with the hope that funding will allow the shelter to remain open for overnights year-round.

Kevin O’Connor wrote this informative story for VTDigger (2/7/2021) on the use of Coronavirus Relief Funds to help house Vermonters experiencing homelessness during the pandemic. Groundworks and the Windham & Windsor Housing Trust have led the way in southern Vermont, collaborating in 2018 to open Great River Terrace (North Brattleboro) and now with the January 2021 opening of The Chalet (West Brattleboro). These permanent supportive housing communities are built on a model that is proven to end homelessness.
