Groundworks Collaborative provides ongoing support to families and individuals facing housing and food insecurities in the greater Brattleboro, Vermont area.
We provide:

- shelter
- and supportive services, including

Food Assistance
Foodworks

- food to supplement your 3SquaresVT / SNAP / “food stamps” or if you would like to learn more about applying for these benefits. You can also call 1-800-479-6151 to request a copy of the application.
- two-week supplies of supplemental food support (meat, produce, dairy, and shelf-stable foods).
- one-time or as-needed help getting through a difficult month.
- household supplies such as pet food, diapers, and toiletries.
Foodworks – In-Person Shopping
Beginning June 5th, 2023, Foodworks is now open five days per week:
- Monday: 12-3
- Tuesday: 10-1 (10-noon reserved for seniors)
- Wednesday: 3-6
- Thursday: 10-1
- Friday: 12-3
Foodworks Delivery
Foodworks will deliver a two-week supply of supplemental food support (meat, produce, dairy, and shelf-stable foods) once per month to those who are unable to pick up food during our open hours.
Please note, deliveries need to be scheduled one week in advance. Contact us at 802-490-2412 or Foodworks@GroundworksVT.org to schedule a delivery.
Housing Assistance
Emergency Temporary Housing
If you are experiencing homelessness and need emergency temporary housing, the first step is to contact Groundworks Overnight Shelter (54 South Main Street) in-person or by phone at 802-302-8300 to check on bed availability. In order to be added to the wait list, you must come in person and complete an intake form with one of our Advocates.
If Groundworks has no beds available, you can apply to the Vermont Economic Services GA Emergency Housing Program (follow the “apply” link for instructions), then call 800-479-6151 (Monday – Friday from 8am-4:30pm). After 4:30pm or on weekends or holidays, dial 2-1-1 to access this program.
If you run into any challenges in accessing these supports, please contact our staff (available 24/7 at 802-302-8300) to help troubleshoot next steps.
Groundworks Drop-In Center
Visit us at 54 South Main Street if you need:
- A Shower
- To do a load of Laundry
- A Mailing Address
- Access to a Phone
- Coffee and Snacks
- Shelter from the Weather
- Case Management
- Outreach and Referrals
- To access 3SquaresVT and other benefit forms or for help applying
Groundworks also offers year-round overnight emergency shelter at the Drop-In Center. Please call 802-302-8300 or stop in and see us for information about signing up for a bed. Please note, the shelter is typically full and maintains a daily waiting list starting at 9am each day. To be added to the waiting list (beginning June 1, 2023), please appear in person at 54 South Main Street to complete an intake with one of our Advocates.
Drop-In Center Hours
Daily Service Hours: 9am-Noon & 2pm-6pm
Overnight Service Hours: 7pm-9am (for confirmed overnight guests only)
Please note: Our Overnight Shelter has an 8pm nightly curfew. Missing the curfew will result in your bed being assigned to the next person on the waitlist.
Please note: The Drop-In Center closes every day from noon-2pm & 6pm-7pm for cleaning and staff meetings.
Morningside House
Morningside House is temporarily closed.
Representative Payee Services
If you are a recipient of Social Security Benefits (SSI or SSDI) and need help managing your monthly budget and spending, Groundworks’ Representative Payee program may be a good fit for you. For more information, contact us at 802-727-0286. Please note, from time to time, this program may have a waiting list.
