Overcoming Adversity & Uncertainty to Meet Our Community’s Most Basic Needs

Overview:

At Groundworks Collaborative, we’re driven to end homelessness in our region. The challenges are significant, given that Vermont has the second highest rate of homelessness per capita, second only to California (Point-in-Time Count, 2022) and given the record high numbers of Vermonters living unsheltered (Point-in-Time Count, 2024). We are proud of our long history of providing ongoing support to individuals an families facing housing and/or food insecurities. We envision a future where everyone has their basic needs met with dignity, including a safe place to call home.

Groundworks Collaborative is currently raising funds to ensure the continuation of vital services within our community—at the Morningside House shelter and Foodworks—and we are looking to supports like you to help us meet our goals.

UPDATES ON OUR PROGRESS

New Shelter Breaking Ground:

Spring 2025 will mark a pivotal moment in our organization’s history as we begin constructing our new shelter at 81 Royal Road. This purpose-built structure will enhance our capacity to provide a safe, dignified, and supportive shelter for community members experiencing homelessness. The new shelter will feature:

  • Modern, accessible, trauma-informed, and safety-focused accommodations designed to support both our clients and staff
  • Dedicated spaces for supportive services and case management
  • Community gathering areas that foster community building
  • Sustainable design elements to reduce environmental impact

Securing the Future of Foodworks:

This purchase represents a crucial step in securing the long-term future of our vital food access program. By owning rather than leasing this property, we can:

  • Ensure stable, continuous operation of our food access services for individuals and families in Windham County
  • Invest in facility improvements with confidence
  • Expand our programming to meet growing community needs
